Farleigh Aramis sunrise beach photoshoot

Farleigh Aramis sunrise beach photoshoot

Farleigh Aramis sunrise beach photoshoot

It took some special people to join me at first light, before sunrise for a North Queensland Equine photoshoot on the beach.  Having a fond love for photographing on our Victorian horse friendly beaches, I was delighted to photograph on one of the iconic beaches that hug the Great Barrier Reef in Queensland.

Our model is Farleigh Aramis, a 5 year old, Australian Riding Pony, affectionately known as Butter at home.  He was bred by Farleigh Stud in Armidale NSW, where the ponies are famous for their temperament and quality.

Joëlle Verfürth of Speewah Equestrian Centre purchased Butter as a yearling and they have shown in-hand successfully, and it’s no wonder with his quality.  He will begin is show riding career in 2020 with their sights set on Royal Show level.

In my pre-planning consultation we decided that a beach session would allow us to create beautiful wall art for Joëlle’s home for her to treasure forever. Usually, I ask that the horse we photograph visits the beach prior to our session so we don’t have a fearful looking horse. As time wasn’t on our side prior to the session, we decided to allow him to get use to the early morning atmosphere without any pressure. And this gave me a wonderful opportunity to quietly capture their connection while Joëlle connected with her boy, reassuring him that he is in a safe place as he visits the beach for the first time. We were thrilled at how much he loved the water as this really helped me photograph his personality and create lovely action photographs whilst he was on a lunge line.
One of the reasons I love sunrise photography is the light.  From first light to sunrise there can be beautiful intense colours rapidly changing.  As a photographer, this allows me to capture something special and unique.  I love how light falls on the horse and shapes him to bring him to life.  Crisp early mornings can liven a horse and enhance their striking movement, making them more showy in front of my camera.

On this gorgeous Queensland morning it was a balmy 24 degrees – very different from our Victorian weather where in October as a storm rolls in, it brings snow to our peaks.  Butter has a playful personality, and his new found love of the water brought out his playfulness.  At home, Butter has a high play drive. He loves to play with yoga balls and he loves to chase other horses with a lunge whip in his mouth, says Joëlle.

“Just magic, you really have captured his natural beauty so well!  I am over the moon with these photos and with my horse.  Highly recommend photos with Equine Photography By Rachel Flynn, It was such a fun, relaxed and personalised experience.”  Joëlle Verfürth, QLD.

My Promise to Cindy

My Promise to Cindy

My Promise to Cindy

Recently I had the opportunity to be part of a very special photoshoot at Cindy’s Promise – Rescue & Rehab with Twister.

Due to a condition called wry mouth, (where his upper jaw and nasal structure are abnormally formed) Twister was sent to the market at a very young age with a bleak future.

His luck changed when Cindy found him and he joined her rescue horses on her gorgeous property in Whittlesea.

Cindy’s passion is to help animals who are rejected because of old age, injury and sickness and at her rehab horses are plentiful.

When I arrived at the property I was greeted with a gorgeous driveway lined with trees and fencing any equine enthusiast would envy.

It wasn’t long before I met the first group of horses, all enjoying Cindy’s presence.  Curious to meet me too, Twister greeted me and instantly stole my heart. A big, kind boy with the most gorgeous eyes that anybody could love.  It was very clear from the happiness of the horses and their health that they hit the jackpot coming to Cindy’s rescue property.

Twister’s story has turned him into a celebrity and gained him front cover position on the Gippsland Horse Expo magazine.

The Gippsland Horse Expo is shaping up to be an incredible event with many stall holders in various equine disciplines and is held on Saturday 12th October from 10am – 4pm.

Find out more about this fabulous event at www.gippslandhorseexpo.com

You’ll find a full article about Cindy’s Promise and Twister plus much more to help you plan ahead for the event in this fabulous magazine. Click here to PRE-PURCHASE your copy today!

If you choose to support one cause in any way, I highly recommend Cindy’s Promise – Rescue & Rehab.  Her love and passion for what she does shines through and I was impressed with her centre’s organised operation. There are many physical as well as financial responsibilities to provide ongoing care, feed, specialists feed for emaciated horses, medical supplies and veterinary expenses, to name a few.

Would you give up one cup of coffee this week to donate $5?

You will be supporting this worthy cause and helping Cindy to continue working her magic with horses in need.  Click here if you can help.

The Horses and the Parachute Dress

The Horses and the Parachute Dress

The Horses and the Parachute Dress

A plan was hatched to shoot the impressive twelve foot long Parachute dress with our gorgeous iconic Australian landscape.  A lot of planning on desensitising the horses in preparation for the dress took place months ahead of the photoshoot date.  It’s one thing to lay a scary object over a horse and ask them to be okay with it, but to ask them to canter or gallop with such a long and easily wind-swept dress was another expectation.  We had to ensure the horses would halt when asked no matter how the dress settled around their legs. They did exceptionally well given the circumstances and we were able to test the dress in different landscapes.

Our model was Brooke Verwey-Mitchell and she rode her drum stallion Rumneyhill Shokora (of Queensferry Park Drum horses) and my palomino partbred Gypsy Cob mare, Golden Lilly (of Pioneer Park Gypsy Cobs).

Brooke is one our Winners of the VIP Monthly Photoshoot Draw.

The dress was rented from Tatiana Coffman of Coffman Couture, U.S.

Collegiate Bridles were generously donated by Horseland Narre Warren.

“Amazing opportunity to be apart of these photo shoots with Rachel Flynn on my incredible Drum stallion. We had so much fun and Rachel captured so many sensational photos ? highly recommend photographer!” Brooke Verwey-Mitchell.

The surprise session

The surprise session

The surprise session

This was one the most exciting photoshoots to date! Tammy and I worked secretly behind the scenes to bring together a surprise photoshoot session for her daughter, Lucy. Lucy is a lover of everything country and we agreed that a session that combined both the iconic Australian bush and beach would suit her to a tee.

It was a cool December day threatening to rain when I arrived to meet them and ZZ, Lucy’s new horse given to her by her Aunt Jane. Lucy’s look of disbelief when I pulled up and got out of the car to meet her was a sign of a well hatched plan.

Throughout the session I enjoyed watching Lucy and ZZ’s partnership bloom. We convinced Tammy to hop on Jane’s gorgeous mare so that we could capture mother and daughter riding together.

“I can’t wipe the smile off my daughters face.  She adores your products, we couldn’t be happier, such beautiful memories”  Tammy, N.S.W
